Ronda is usually seen from the Puente Nuevo. Everyone takes the same photo, leaning on the railing, peering down the hundred metres of the Tajo gorge. Flying paramotor in Ronda turns that photo around: you go to the other side, into the air, and see the whole bridge, the town hanging over the cliff, and the mountains opening up behind it.
And you don't need to be anyone special to do it. You fly a tandem paratrike: a wheeled seat, you in front, the pilot behind. No running, no jumping, nothing to do. You sit down, buckle up, and you take off rolling.

What exactly do you see flying over Ronda?
We take off from a runway on the outskirts, and within a couple of minutes you're already over the valley. The first thing to appear is El Tajo: a nearly 100-metre-deep crack that splits the town in two, stitched together up top by the Puente Nuevo. From the air it suddenly makes sense why Ronda sits where it does: it isn't a town with a view, it's a town perched on a cliff.
Then everything else appears. The bullring, which from above looks like a white coin set on the edge. The Cuenca Gardens and the old town. The tightly packed rooftops of the historic centre and, as you turn your head, the whole Serranía de Ronda: olive groves, fields, the Sierra de las Nieves in the distance and, on clear days, a horizon that reaches all the way to the sea.
Paramotor or paratrike: why we fly this way in Ronda
There are two ways to launch a paramotor: standing up, running with the engine on your back, or seated in a paratrike, a wheeled cart that rolls a few metres and lifts off by itself. We fly tandem paratrikes, and it's not by chance:
- No running or fitness required. You sit down and that's it.
- It's comfortable: you're in a seat with a backrest, not hanging from a harness.
- It opens flying up to far more people: older adults, anyone with a dodgy knee, anyone who's never done a sport in their life.
- It's stable, which makes it ideal for filming and taking photos during the flight.
Unlike paragliding, which depends on thermals and wind, paramotor carries an engine: that means you fly in calm air, usually early morning or evening, and the pilot decides the route rather than the weather.

And the part people don't always hear: we choose the day. We check the forecast, and if the air isn't right, we don't fly — the date changes, at no cost and no argument. It's easier to move a date than to fix a bad flight.

Flying in Ronda from Málaga, Marbella or the Costa del Sol
Ronda is a short drive from almost the entire Costa del Sol, which is why it works so well as a day trip:
- From Marbella and San Pedro: around 1 hour via the A-397.

- From Estepona or Fuengirola: 1h to 1h15.
- From Seville or Cádiz: around 2 hours.
