Paragliding Near Marbella: A Day Trip Worth Taking

~1h15 from Marbella·Tandem flight from €100·No experience needed

Marbella has beaches, but no mountains to launch a paraglider from. What it does have, about 1h15 up the A-397, is the Serranía de Ronda — one of the best free-flying regions in Europe, and the same area where our paramotor flights take off over Ronda's Puente Nuevo.

If you're staying on the Costa del Sol and want to add one properly memorable day to the trip, this is usually it.

What you need to know, in 20 seconds

Why drive up from Marbella for this

The Costa del Sol is flat by the water and mountainous a short way inland — that's exactly the terrain paragliding and paramotor need. The Serranía de Ronda and the Sierra de Cádiz form a corridor of south-facing peaks with clean thermals almost year-round, which is why pilots fly here through the winter when much of Europe can't.

The drive itself is part of the experience: the A-397 climbs through pine forest and the Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park, with viewpoints worth a quick stop on the way.
