Paragliding in Ronda: Fly Over the Serranía

Tandem flight · from €100·30-40 min·No experience needed·🇪🇸 Leer en español

If you're looking for paragliding in Ronda, here's the first thing worth knowing, and we'll say it plainly: paragliding doesn't launch from inside the town. It launches from the mountains around it — Ronda la Vieja, Teba, Cañete la Real, El Bosque, Montellano and Algodonales — all 20 to 45 minutes from Ronda. And that's the good news.

Because up there, in the Serranía, sits one of the best free-flying regions in Europe. No engine, no noise: just the wing, the air and the silence. You fly tandem with a licensed pilot, no experience of any kind required.

What you need to know, in 20 seconds

Why the flying is so good around Ronda

The Serranía de Ronda and the Sierra de Cádiz form a corridor of south-facing mountains, with clean ridgelines and sun for most of the year. In practice that means thermals that work well, comfortable launches and wide landing fields. That's why pilots travel from all over Europe to fly here in the middle of winter.

Each site has its own character, which is why we don't always fly the same one:

We check the forecast the day before and choose whichever mountain is flying best that day. That's the difference between flying well and just flying.

What a tandem paragliding flight is actually like

We drive up to the launch site together. At the top, the pilot lays out the wing, fits your harness and helmet, and explains the only thing you need to do: walk forward a few steps and don't sit down until told to. The wing fills with air, lifts, and after three or four strides the ground simply isn't there any more.

Then it goes quiet. No engine. You're seated, as if in a chair hanging from the sky, looking at the horizon. Below you, olive groves, whitewashed villages and the occasional reservoir drift past. Catch a thermal and you climb; otherwise you glide gently toward landing. A griffon vulture sometimes drifts in close to take a look — it happens more often than you'd think.

Is it safe? Does it feel like vertigo?

We fly with licensed pilots, certified and regularly inspected equipment, and accident and liability insurance included. We're a registered adventure tourism company with the Junta de Andalucía, number AT/MA/00330. And the most important decision in paragliding isn't made in the air, it's made beforehand, by checking the forecast: if the day isn't right, we don't fly — no cost to reschedule.

As for vertigo: almost nobody feels it. Vertigo comes from standing with your feet on an edge, with a nearby reference point. In the air there's no edge and no reference: you're seated, floating, and it feels more like a calm viewpoint than a fairground ride.

Requirements: weight, age and health

If you have a specific condition (pregnancy, back injury, recent surgery), write to us beforehand and we'll tell you honestly whether it's a good idea.

Getting there from Ronda, Málaga or the Costa del Sol

The flying sites are spread around Ronda, so distances vary depending on where we fly that day:

When we confirm your booking, we'll tell you the exact site and meeting point. Many visitors make a full day of it: flying in the morning, then exploring Ronda or the white villages in the afternoon.

Paragliding or paramotor?

They're cousins, but not the same thing. Paragliding has no engine: it launches from a mountain, rides the air and glides — total silence and a pure sense of flight. Paramotor has an engine and launches from a runway, so it can fly directly over the town of Ronda and its Puente Nuevo. If what you want is the photo over the gorge, that's paramotor in Ronda. If you want to fly quietly over the mountains, it's this.

Frequently asked questions

Can you paraglide over Ronda itself?

Paragliding launches from mountains, so we fly in the sierras around Ronda: Ronda la Vieja, Teba, Cañete la Real, El Bosque, Montellano or Algodonales, all 20-45 minutes from the town. To fly directly over Ronda's Puente Nuevo and the Tajo gorge, that's paramotor, not paragliding.

Do I need any experience to paraglide?

None. Every flight is tandem: a licensed pilot controls the wing and you simply take a few steps at take-off. Most of our passengers have never flown before.

How much does paragliding near Ronda cost?

Introductory flight €100 (30 minutes), Acrobatic €110 (30 minutes) and Distance €130 (40 minutes). You book with a €20 deposit and pay the rest on the day.

Who chooses the flying site?

We choose it on the day, based on the weather forecast, from our usual sites across the Serranía de Ronda and the Sierra de Cádiz — so you always fly in the best possible conditions.

Is paragliding scary? Does it feel like vertigo?

Almost nobody feels it. Vertigo comes from standing at the edge of something with a nearby reference point; in the air there's neither. You're seated in a harness, floating, looking at the horizon.

Is there a weight or age limit?

The range is wide, up to around 130 kg. Children fly with parental authorisation and older adults in good health also fly. If you have a specific concern, just ask us and we'll be honest with you.

What happens if the weather is bad?

We reschedule at no extra cost. We confirm 24-48 hours beforehand by checking the forecast. In paragliding, the most important decision is not to fly when conditions aren't right.
